Description

The trek to Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) is well-known for its breathtaking mountain views including Machhapuchhre, Dhaulagiri, Annapurna I, Hiunchuli, Annapurna South, Khangsar, Gangapurna, and Annapurna III.

 

This tough yet doable trek takes you on an outstanding journey throughout the Himalayas and villages, mesmerising them with its renowned splendour. However, the fascination of the ABC extends beyond just trekking. During the journey, hikers have a chance to learn about various local ethnic communities such as the Gurungs, Magars, Thakalis, and Lobas. Small Buddhist shrines and gumbas can be seen scattered throughout the scenic villages, providing a glimpse into old traditions here.

Trip Summary

 

The excitement of ABC begins with a thrilling 6-7 hour drive to Pokhara or a quick flight of 30 minutes. You will travel from Pokhara to Jhinu Danda marking a beginning and then trek to Chhomrong, experiencing the beauty of nature. On the fourth day in Nepal, take on a captivating journey from Chhomrong to the Himalaya, which includes a walk with lush forests and charming villages along the way. On the 5th day, you will arrive at ABC where you will witness stunning sights of mountains covered with snow.

Once you achieve your goal of reaching Base Camp of Annapurna, you will make your way back to Bamboo, and then Jhinu Danda. You can now relax in the natural hot springs before returning to Pokhara too for some much-needed relaxation. During the final days of this 10-day trip, enjoy the attractions of Pokhara for a full day and get ready to head back to Kathmandu with a choice between a 6-7 hour drive or a 30-minutes flight.

 

Brief Itinerary

 

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu (1,338 m/4,390 ft)

Highest altitude: 1,350m

Your journey with us begins as you step on the land of Nepal. Upon your arrival, our staff will help you with swift check-in at your hotel in Kathmandu along with a ride from the airport. Freshen up, explore the lively streets of thamel, and make sure you are well-prepared for the adventure that awaits you in the Annapurna Region.

 

Day 2: Drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara (830 m/2,723 ft)

Highest Altitude: 1,406m

Drive hours: 6-7 hours

Enjoy the 7-hour fun ride to Pokhara. You will be driving across towns, forests, rivers, settlements, villages, and landscapes.

Upon reaching Pokhara, it has a lot to offer—lakeside entertainment, rich nightlife, or simply opting to rest at the designated hotels.

 

If 7 hours of drive feels exhausting and not so interesting, you can also take a 30-minute flight to Pokhara.

 

Day 3: Drive to Jhinu Danda, hike to Chhomrong

Trek Time: 3 hours

Trek Distance: 4-5 km

Highest Altitude: (2,150 m/7,054 ft)

From Pokhara, we head to Nayapul, a small, beautiful settlement around the Pokhara-Baglung Highway. The same day, we will conquer the path to Chhomrong, relishing mother nature. You will ascend a treeless ridge, reaching Taglung, after which there is just a little walk left to reach Chomrong. Chhomrong is a beautiful village of Gurungs situated on the lap of the Annapurna area. Ascending to Chhomrong grants the view of the amazing snowcapped Annapurna and Machhapuchhre mountains.

 

Day 4: Chhomrong to Himalaya (2,680 m/8,793 ft)

Trek Time: 5 hours

Trek Distance: 12km

Highest Altitude:(2,600m/6,190ft)

Today’s trek is an exciting downhill walk towards Chomrong Khola on steep stones. Ascending again on the trail, you will walk through the forest full of rhododendron, bamboo, and oak, while distracting you with the Himalayas, including Annapurnas and Machhapuchhre. Descending further after reaching the village of Khuldigar, you will reach the Himalaya.

 

Day 5: Himalaya to Machhapuchhre Base Camp (3700 m/12135 ft) to Annapurna Base Camp (4130 m/13545 ft)

 

Highest Altitude: 4130 m/13545 ft

Trek distance: 10 km

Trek time: 7-8 hours

As you wake up the next morning, prepare for a steep climb leading you to Hinku Cave and then to Deurali and Bagar. Trekking for about five hours, you will find yourself in Machhapuchhre Base Camp. Enjoy the grand sight of Machhapuchhre alongside Annapurna South, Annapurna I, Annapurna III, Mt. Hiunchuli, Gandharvachuli, and Gangapurna. Walking further MBC, you will encounter rocks, boulders, and snow replacing the greenery. With 2 hours of more hike, you will find yourself surrounded with views of the South Face of Annapurna, Machhapuchhre, Annapurna South, Annapurna I, Hiunchuli, and different peaks.

 

Day 6: ABC to Bamboo

Walking distance: 16km

Highest Altitude: (2,310 m/7,579 ft)

Time: 6-7 hours

 

Enjoying the beautiful sunrise early in the morning, you will walk downhills to Bamboo. Today’s trek will be purely downhill, which makes it easier to walk for the day.

 

Day 7: Bamboo to Jhinu Danda (1780 m/5840 ft) to Pokhara

Walking distance: 9 km

Highest Altitude: (1,760 m/5,775 ft)

Time: 5–6 hours

 

With a beautiful walk downhill, Jhinu Danda will welcome you with the natural hot spring just 25 minutes away. The only uphill trek is from Bamboo to Kuldighar, followed by a downhill walk to Chhomrong Khola. You can take a lunch break as you reach Chhomrong. The hot spring at the end will help you say goodbye to all the tiredness while doing the ABC trek.

Later, you can take a 3-hour drive back to Pokhara with a jeep and rest at the end of the day.

 

Day 8: Exploring Pokhara (830 m/2,723 ft)

 

Pokhara is a city to enjoy and never miss out on when you visit Nepal, especially the Annapurna region. Sit beside the lakeside to enjoy your meals, try all the crazy and fun activities you find here, and visit every place that makes Pokhara the city you must visit, including David’s Fall, Gupteshwor cave, mountaineering exhibition hall, Seti River Gorge, World Peace Stupa, and more!

 

One day might simply not feel enough.

 

Day 9: Drive or Fly Pokhara to Kathmandu

Highest Altitude: (1,338 m/4,390 ft)

With a light breakfast, enjoy a 6-7-hour drive to Kathmandu or your 30-minute flight. Once you reach Kathmandu, rest and enjoy the remaining of your time here. You can also explore Kathmandu a bit if you still have time.

 

Day 10: Airport Drop and International Departure

With smiles, memories, and photographs, bid a hearty farewell as you depart for your home. Buy souvenirs and bid your farewell to the new friends you made here. We will drive you to Tribhuvan International Airport before the scheduled time, and hope to assist you on your next trek or visit to Nepal.
